CAMPAIGN AGAINST EXTREME CRUELTY IN JAÉN, ANDALUSÍA, SPAIN.

For photos of this year's atrocities please scroll down after entering this link:

http://asanda.org/expedientes/beas_gobernacion_2007.pdf

Every year in Beas de Segura and Arroyo del Ojanco the citizens celebrate the religious festivity of St. Mark by sadistically torturing bulls and calves to death in an  unbelievable orgy of blood and violence.

Please be strong for the animals and look at the photos at:

http://www.asanda.org/index.php?module=CONTENT_EXPRESS&func=display&ceid=112

This year 80 animals will be the hapless victims of a “celebration” that has been declared “ Andalusian Fiesta of National Tourist Interest” and the appalling tortures will start on April 23rd and go on for several days.

To add insult to injury, according to The Mayor of Beas de Segura, Lope Morales, the animal defenders are “picking” on this celebration, and the local government has stated that “the animals do not suffer” and that the photos were “manipulated” In other words, what you see in Beas is not real! We are all hallucinating!

1) Please write to the Mayor Lope Morales at:

info@ayto-beasdesegura.com and if possible also fax him to  0034 953458009

2) Please write to the Andalusian Tourist Board at:

info@andalucia.org and if possible also fax them to 0034 951299316

3) Please write to the local papers: opinion@diariojaen.es; jaen@ideal.es

4) Please write to the Spanish embassy in your country, you can find their details at http://www.spanish-living.com/info_embassies.htm

There are countless Spanish “celebrations”, many supposedly religious; some actually organized by the church, where animals are sadistically tortured to death, thousands upon thousands of animals dying long drawn deaths that the reader of these lines could not possibly fathom because of their evil inventiveness. Spain depends on international tourism for jobs and income, if the readers and all their friends and families choose other destinations for their holidays we could help civilize a country that is still trying to rival the cruelty of ancient Rome!

Many Spanish people are fighting these terrible acts, the majority of Spaniards are disgusted by them, but they need our help, please forward widely!

Sample letter:

Atte.

Here your name and name of your country

Translation: Outside Spain we are horrified with the “celebrations” at Beas de Segura. We cannot understand how your people can behave so sadistically and with such savagery towards innocent animals year on year, and this is considered of “Tourist Interest” We know what is happening at Beas and neither I nor my family and friends will visit Andalucía while these dreadful deeds keep being carried out.

    ALGEMESÍ CALVES TORMENT

http://www.latortura.es/

On the 25th and 27th of September 2006 in Algemesí, Valencia, the "traditional" spectacle of extreme sadism towards innocent animals was celebrated in Spain: Several baby calves were chased down the streets while the rabble stabbed them with 6 to 8 cm spears. Witnesses say it is heart wrenching to hear their pitiful screams while they get tortured and try hopelessly to hide from the spears. When they are too tired and bleeding on the ground they are finished off with an80 cm sword, stabbed up to 40 times. Thousands of people participate in this "fiesta" and many very young children witness the torture and massacre.

TORDESILLAS BULL TORTURE

Wednesday 13th Sept. 2006

The poor, innocent bull Rompesueños was sadistically, horribly killed yesterday by a mob of drunken sickos but not before hurting several of the criminals, one of them is apparently seriously hurt at the hospital.

While this was happening, a small plane rented by the Spanish  animal rights organization Actyma was flying overhead recording the barbaric event and carrying a banner that read "Tordesillas verguenza de España" (Tordesillas shame of Spain)

Now the Tordesillas Mayor Emilio Álvarez Villazán
has declared to the media his intention to sue Actyma for recklessness (like if chasing a bull while tormenting him is not reckless) and mudding the town 's name. As if Tordesillas's name is not mud, already!

Monday 11th Sept. 2006

About this demostration, all we have to say is SHAME TO THE RESIDENTS OF TORDESILLAS!! and thank you for pelting us with eggs, tomatos, stones, for hurting two of the demostrators one of which ended in the hospital. We were 800 peaceful demostrators, you were a furious rabble and  the police did not protect us. Poor, poor Rompesueños, the innocent bull that will be tortured to death by this same rabble tomorrow!! This is happening in the EU, which states that "traditions" like this are perfectly acceptable!!!!!!!!! HELP US!! Please write or call the Spanish Embassy in your country and your Euro MP and say STOP to these barbaric, disgusting practices!!

THE "TORO DE TORDESILLAS" HORROR

One  more year we will have to witness and to suffer one of the most  sadistic  and merciless "traditions" celebrated in Spain.
One  more year  we will hear and feel the cries of agony of an innocent animal sadistically murdered  by  lances at the hands of some "brave" citizens of the town of  Tordesillas in the  province of Valladolid. The CITY COUNCIL OF  TORDESILLAS justifies and sponsors such an atrocious  act, also plainly supported by the official  organisms of the Junta  de Castilla and León.
One  more year our protests and accusations will be to no avail?  This  ghastly crime will remain unpunished in Tordesillas? Here is a summary  of  what they actually do in this "fiesta":
The celebration starts by the release of a bull  in  an open space, usually in the outskirts of the town. The "brave"  citizens of  Tordesillas then chase and harass the bull, throwing  lances and other sharp  objects at the poor animal. The latter,  wounded, bleeds and tries to seek refuge  in a helplessly. The  condemned animal collapses, with no strenght left, and that  is when  it encounters the climax of this  sadistic ritual: our "brave" citizens  proceed to cut off the bull's tail and  testicles! This last cruel  act is almost always carried out when the bull is  still agonising  and alive. Its testicles are shown off as trophies and exhibited  to the cheering crowd.... It is difficult to comprehend, but this  malicious and  cruel deed is declared of touristic interest and it  is offered to honour the Virgin de  la Peña with the  complicity of  the Catholic church.
We beg everybody, citizens of our civilized world in  Europe,  and in the rest of world to publish and distribute this atrocity, to help  us end  such murders, unfairly labeled "traditions", in Spain
We  also urge you not to visit Tordesillas, Valladolid or the  Community  of Castilla and Leon. We'd even venture to urge you not to visit  a  country whose national festivities have to do with the torture  and the murder of  innocent animals, a country that supports and  legalizes such  atrocities.
Thank  you for your understanding and  support.

You can call or send a letter (Spanish or English) to the Spanish embassy in your country to protest against this atrocity. Please do not forget to say that you will not visit Spain until this awful, primitive "tradition" is forbidden.

Boycott Villanueva de la Vera Products!

Each year at the beginning of february  (Carnival) a donkey is dreadfully physically and psychologically abused in a festival in Villanueva de la Vera in the Spanish province of Extremadura. During the "Pero Palo" Fiesta on Shrove Tuesday the animal is jostled and dragged through the village by a savage and drunken crowd. He is exposed to gunshots and firecrackers near his head, kicked and driven mad with fear and due to the stress involved, the donkey sweats heavily and collapses a number of times. Please look at:

http://www.anti-corrida.de/PeroPalo.htm

National and international animal rights activists have opposed this event for many years. In 1987 Vicki Moore, co-founder with her husband of Fight Against Animal Cruelty in Europe (FAACE), made international headlines when she saved Blackie the Donkey from death in the village. Because of a recent animal protection law (Ley 5/2002 for the protection of animals), the villagers should no longer be able to abuse the donkey. However, nothing much has changed and the animal still suffers.

Video material taken in 2003 by FAACE and IAC, showing the rough treatment of the donkey, was presented by the Asociación Nacional para la Protección y el Bienestar de los Animales (ANPBA, Madrid) to the Guardia Civil y the government of Extremadura, but this has been disregarded. ANPBA has even questioned the proper procedures of the investigation, but the people in charge are simply not willing to make changes.

Therefore we are calling for an international boycott of a product of the region: "Pimenton de la Vera". It is a spice consisting of smoked pepper powder and produced by several villages in the "de la Vera" region. It is exported to many countries and also sold via the Internet.

We ask you not to buy this product and tell your dealer (internet mail order shops as well), that you will boycott "Pimenton de la Vera" as long as a live animal is used in the fiesta.

If you happen to travel in the area, please don't buy it. The brand from Villanueva de la Vera is sold under the name "Gualtaminos" to tourists in gift shops.

If you want to support the campaign by writing to the authorities and producers/marketing companies please write to the addresses provided below.
